The LOM is active even when powered off... allows you to boot the
machine up or shut it down via serial.

Uhhh... think your best bet is minicom on Linux with a null
modem to the LOM.

Last SPARC I used with Linux was a SparcStation 5 running
SuSE 7.2.  No problems.  Not sure how well 7.3 works on
SPARC.  I have the CDs somewhere (??).
