Do I understand correctly that there's no parallel port on the Dell
itself, only on the docking station?

Is there anything about the parallel port in your BIOS? If so, be sure
it's enabled, and that it's EPP or EPP+ECP, not ECP alone.

Try lp0 and lp1 and lp2 etc. Quicker to try than to figure it out
theoretically.

You can adjust your CUPS config at http://localhost:631. It has some
capabilities to detect printers. This might be a help. Mint probably
has other printer utilities, although I've always come back to the
CUPS config, as the most reliable.
