Stephen/Ralph:

I am successfully running Fedora 17/64-bit, kernel 3.9.10-100, Nvidia
325.15, Flash 11.2.202.297 and Firefox 22.0-1 . This appears to be a
fairly stable combination - better than I've seen in quite a while.

Agreed, many past combinations have been utter disasters. Root cause for
some problems appeared to be Flash, some Firefox and others Nvidia.
Problems were most frequently caused by Flash and/or Firefox.

Please note that recent versions of Firefox *REQUIRE* the *MOST-RECENT*
version of Flash. Anything less was a complete and utter no-go. (My
experience was in place of each video, Firefox substituted a gray
plugin-crashed box. Never got to the video at all...) Above listed
combination is not perfect, but is quite usable.

My best suggestions are:

1) Get the most current version of Firefox your distribution supports.

2) Get the MOST CURRENT version of Flash available.

3) The 32-bit versions appear slightly more stable that 64-bit versions.

4) If your video hardware is Nvidia, try the proprietary video driver.

5) If you still have problems, do a web search for "flash disable
hardware acceleration". That was the only work around I found somewhat
helpful in the past. (Symptom was Flash player locking up in the middle
of a YouTube video)

6) Documentation! If/when you find a working combination, write down the
version numbers. I frequently update my system, creating combinations of
Flash & Firefox that don't work well together. I think often about all
the time and trouble I could save myself if I would just write down
those two version numbers...

Best of luck on your flash adventure!
