[NTLUG:Discuss] b43 and firmware update

I recently recovered from a black screen by not facing the issue and I reinstalled 8.04 in hopes that I would go back to normal.
The original problem referred me to
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43
It also mentioned updating firmware (version 4)
I am merely attempting to avoid that black screen again because frankly I am not experienced enough to fix without risk I guess.
Why am I worried the last time I booted out of 8.04 I saw a black screen and then zip its gone naturally. So I am in windows afraid to boot to linux.
But if I can without a black screen I do have downloaded on a USB stick a zip file b43-all-fw.
It said to extract it to /lib/firmware/
1. If its not the right one am I in trouble
2. If I can and do extract it how exactly do I do it.
