[NTLUG:Discuss] Setting up a RAID

I have a RAID enclosure that is empty and I would like to use to setup a
RAID and manage it on a Linux box. I bought a 64U rack locally and the
RAID enclosure was included. There is nothing in it other than 2 fans.
Also it looks like there are 2 spaces for standard ATA power supplies
and a panel on the back to place something to allow for external cables
to be plugged in. On the front are 2 switches and each switch has a
small cord attached to it.
I am thinking about using 4 or 6 SATA drives on it and maybe having half
of the drives for the main RAID array while the other half of the drives
will be used to backup everything if possible. I am trying to determine
what I will need for the case to get it running.
Also if it is possible to use half of the hard drives to backup
everything when needed how would I do that?
Also I am using Fedora Core 8.
