You have ffmpeg and mencoder to do the converstions to mov or mpeg4.

Avidemux is extremely limited. I used avidemux and being a linear editor
will cause destructive changes to the video that also will damage it
because of smart tags.

I disagree, I think Cinerella is very strong and professional video
editor. I have been using it for a month and have been able to create
things I couldnt do in commercial video editors. Also other video editors
are pretty good like jahshaka and openmovieeditor.
