There's a trick to it all:
The modem is hooked up to the sound card to allow for VOICE mail.
The modem software packages for windows includes the ability to do the
voice mail operation.
There are some modems that have the ability to do the voice mail thing
themselves, you just have to check the specs on your modem.
You might try some fuzzy searches on google for linux modem voice mail...
