[NTLUG:Discuss] RFC: ITT Tech

You must get a degree. I know good people who have been let go because
they do not have a B.S. degree. And the people that were kept were not as
good but they had a degree. HR has a lot of people applying at the moment
everywhere and the degree is the first weed out step. It is a binary
process. Have a degree they will look closer, no degree then resume goes
in trash bin.

It really sucks to have 20+ years of experience and no job. My advice is to
get a degree from the best college that will let you in. It opens up
doors. ITT and Devry, (in my opinion) are towards the bottom of the list
if you want a competitive degree. When I worked for TI Defense Group (a
long time ago) I do not think we hired any people for engineering positions
from ITT or Devry.

Of course the other option is to go into business for yourself. I have not
had any customers ask me what my degree is or where I went to college. It
is not as easy as working 9-5 for someone else, but it has its rewards. The
good news is that some things are turning around. I am seeing my business
pick up a lot since December.
