[NTLUG:Discuss] Postfix newaliases

According to the man page I need to run newaliases after adding an alias
to /etc/aliases.

This has always worked with no trouble on other installations. On this
new Mandrake 9.0 install, I find /usr/bin/newaliases points to 
/etc/alternatives/mta-newaliases. This file does not exist. However,
/etc/alternatives/mta-etc_aliases does. It looks like a copy of my
/etc/aliases file. Probably created when I ran
/usr/bin/newaliases.postfix which points to 
/usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix which is a binary file and it hangs when run.

So, did I create a new alias database? and can I safely restart postfix?
