Judging some of the follow ups my previous reply was to long to read so I
will keep this one short. I like the linksys wap11 it is fairly cheap
around $100 has up to 256bit encryption, web based administration, easy
installation, multiple base frequncies. They also have a pci card the
wmp11.

I've pretty well decided that wireless is going to be the way to go.
I'm estimating that plenum- or riser-rated cable is, at something on
the order of $100-$150/box, is going to be wildly expensive. $200
for a patch panel, plus associated bits and pieces (not to mention
$30-$50 for a punchdown tool and blade). Even on ebay, after
shipping it doesn't get a whole lot cheaper. And that's without even
considering holes in my ceiling, which I haven't even looked at
doing properly yet. Looks like my answer, just based on sheer
price, is going to be 802.11x.

Something with that kind of performance wouldn't necessarily be a
bad thing, and since I'm only intending on buying one card and one
AP, it's not a huge crisis that the individual bits are a little on the
not-cheap side. I'm guessing the AP1000 is the AP? What's the
card? I need PCI, not PCMCIA.
