[NTLUG:Discuss] File transfer speeds

I don't know how much a "REAL" switch costs, but I have a Linksys
10/100 5 port Auto-sensing switch that I bought for around 45 bucks,
and I get an ftp transfer rate of about 38 Megabits/sec (to another
machine on the switch).
He is only getting .5 Megabits/sec. Even if both cards are 10 Mbps I'd
think he'd do better than that. You're thinking that it is a hardware
limitation? Couldn't it be a bad (or improperly wired) cable? Bad
tcp/ip settings on one or both of the PCs?
I think I might explore a little further before rushing out to buy a
new switch.
