[NTLUG:Discuss] remote retrieving e-mail

Hi all:

can any give me a hand for setting pop3/imap for retrieve email form any 
remote place?
I am running qmail behind firewall on RH 6.2, using iptables for firewall.

1. actually, my questionis what package do i need to make it? pop3 or imap? 
or others?
2. only authorized user can logon to mail server and retrieve their mails. 
of course, I
  don't konw where they from.

any links or commants are welcome.
