I wouldn't be quite so encouraging. The largest sector by far in high tech
in DFW is the telecomm industry, which has taken a huge nosedive.
For example, I am a technical writer. I am finally seeing a few jobs barely
beginning to open up, but there are hundreds unemployed in the area. In my
case, last December there were 55 in my tech writing group, which was one
of two at Nortel. The other was roughly the same size. Two or three months
ago, there were 12 in the new group, combined from the two old ones.
If your specialty is one in demand, great. If not, you'll only be one more
looking just now. In any event, I suggest if you're going to move you do it
quickly, since few are hired between now and New Year's.
