Yes - sorry - I *really* shouldn't go anywhere near anything that might

You are exactly right PERL certainly is powerful *and* practical for the
things it's intended to do - and it's meaningless to compare it to C or
C++ ... but it's an *UGLY* language to look at which is what I dislike
about it - hence the cheap shot at the PERL developers.  My apologies.
