ALT-F7 won't always take you "back" to the graphical desktop (X
session).  It is going to depend on how many virtual consoles are set
up.  I seem to recall at least one destro used 8 virtual terminals,
therefore to get back to X it would be ALT-F9.  You can also use (in
most destros) ALT-{left_arrow_key} and ALT-{right_arrow_key}  to scroll
through each virtual terminal (once out of X).
