[NTLUG:Discuss] Netscape quirk?

Hi,
Today's problem dujour is this: I recently upgraded Netscape to 4.7. This 'seemed' to go without a hitch, when suddenly all went
awry. Whenever I brought up the browser, it would hang on the about Netscape page for about 30 seconds before connecting to my
blank startup page. No menu, keyboard or other actions possible. Alright, I reinstalled Redhat 6.1 after about 2 weeks of this
silliness. I thought I'ld see if this was something I just hadn't noticed with 4.61 (yeah right). Sure enough, I was able to get
it to do the about Netscape thing, without the 30 second pause though. 'All' it took to recover was to delete my .netscape
directory and not specify a startup page, let it default to the Redhat documentation page.
Can anyone tell me why Netscape will come up with the Redhat documentation page without pause, and not any page I specify (blank or
otherwise). It seems to want to start with the about Netscape page, and then after receiving the focus (important distinction),
look up my page.
My setup:
Redhat 6.1
2.2.12-20 Kernel (default with distribution)
XFree86 3.5
Gnome (who knows what version)
Enlightenment (ditto)
Netscape 4.61 | Netscape 4.7
Java (whatever comes with redhat) | jdk1.2.2-rc2
Pentium MMX 200 | Amd K6 200
Viper V550 with the latest bios
Creative SB16
80MB 10ns Ram
8 gig IDE HDD
SCSI This that and the other
Any and all comments appreciated,
Will
