[NTLUG:Discuss] OT printer carrier sheet question

Fred,
I was basing the smudging on a HP LJ 4P trying to print peel and stick labels from a mac where the paper quality selection seemed to have zero effect on the toner temp or roll through rate, none of the settings affected the temp or speed and all ~30 sheets I tested on failed.
Did your test pass without worrying about the paper quality, or did you set it and actually detect a difference (long wait for fuser to heat, or the printer seemed to roll at half speed?)

Everyone else,
I used an HP LJ 4P on my desk for about 2 years. In those 2 years, I put 3 $40 TONER cartridges in it and printed roughly 30,000-60,000 sheets before I put it on someone else's desk to make room for an HP LaserJet 5520C (which also seems to accept toner much more readily than ink). ((:
.. And to think that all this time I should have been using ink cartridges.. Can you recall snail mail?
Why did the discussion about ink even land in this thread?

-> My ink jet printer uses an ink that remains water soluble ... not
good for checks or envelopes, and stuff like that.

With ink jet technology you can almost spend less money buying a new
printer on sale than buying replacement ink cartridges.  If the current
ink jet ink is water-soluble then I'd start doing research into
alternatives.  When you run out of ink then consider your options.
