Anyone know of a good program to do this?  The reason I ask is I'm 
trying to discover where KDE4 stores it's configuration and what the 
entries in plasma-desktop-appletsrc mean.  Documentation seems to be 
elusive which is why I want to use this approach.  I'm hoping there is a 
program I can run to capture digests or equivalent, make a change and 
rerun the program to locate differences.  None of the digest programs 
have a recursive option (that I saw).
