Patrick,
One of the thing about Ubuntu I like is how well they handle a
variety of desktop environments. Mandrake used to do a good job of
that, but I think Ubuntu does it even better. With the disaster that
is Unity, I have been trying other desktop environments. For the last
6 months or so, my primary environment has been KDE on Ubuntu. One
thing bugs me. I bet it is a simple fix, if I knew where to look.
Whenever I log in, I have 2 programs launch that I don't want to
launch. One is the synaptics trackpad manager. It always gives me an
error that it can't find a synaptics trackpad. I ran the program
once, by accident, when I was intending to launch synaptic, the
package utility. And, nautilus launches and shows me my home
directory. My startup would go quicker if I did not have to wait for
those to finish drawing and then close them.
I am about ready to give up on KDE and switch to XFCE. Maybe someone
here knows how to fix this.
Thanks,
Ralph

Kubuntu in particular has been a pleasure to use.
