Basically I have a new case, mother board and memory, and old hard
drives, DVD/CD drive, and floppy
The old drives are of course IDE and the new mother board supports
1 channel (2 devices) IDE
4 SATA (sata_0 sata_1 sata_2 sata_3, each to be set to master)
1 Floppy
I have
Linux on 2 IDE HHD
Win98SE on 1 IDE HDD
1 DVD/CD
1 3.5 floppy drive
Yesterday,
I installed an IDE expansion card
I hook the Linux disks to the IDE channel (master and slave) on the
mother board
I hook the DVD/CD and Win98 SE (master and slave) to one channel on
the expansion card
I hook the floppy to the mother board
Plenty of problems, but Linux tried to boot - the complaint was it
couldn't find hdd7 ... the light went on - didn't know anything about
the expansion card so it couldn't see the disk or DVD/CD
Today
I removed the IDE expansion card
I left the Linux disks to the IDE channel (master and slave) on the
mother board
I installed converters on the Win98SE and DVD/CD (converts IDE
devices to SATA connections)
I hook Win98SE to SATA_0 (master)
I hook DVD/CD to SATA_1 (master)
Now the box cannot find a bootable hard drive (I should note that the OS
partition on the Win98SE disk has been wiped in preperation for a reinstall)
The board is a GA-G41M-ES2L
The SATA cable on sata_0 has an L-shaped end that (as instructed) in
attached to the device. The other SATA cable is straight at each end
Any clues would be much appreciated
Thanks
Regards
Fred James
