[NTLUG:Discuss] Wallpaper / Desktop Background spanning multiple monitors

Guys/Gals,
I sent my original frustration with current X setups and nvidia drivers
awhile back...and I was hoping that the industry would update/correct since
then (to no avail).
So, my question is "Does there still exist a problem with the nvidia drivers
regarding desktop background spanning on multiple monitors"
or
"do I have something wrong with my configuration"?
Background: I've been running Linux for quite awhile as my workstation OS
of choice. When Windows guys would come over, I'd always like showing off
that in Linux, my background image would span (1/2 on one monitor and the
other, different 1/2 on another monitor) instead of being like WinXP in that
the backgrounds have to be the same (so on a dual-headed setup - you would
have two monitors each with the same background). In the last 6 months to a
year, my OS of choice (Linux Mint) which used to span correctly with my
NVIDIA cards has stopped doing that...and I'm back to a WinXP style mirror
images rather than spanning.
HELP!?
