Ah! That straightens the picture for me. Investigation
reveals the false assumption I've made. It seems the
laptop fan inhales air, rather than exhales as I
believed.

That's not quite on the mark. Some air must follow the
slots once the laptop is in place, of course. However,
there's quite a strong stream of air flowing upwards
from each of the two cooling pad fans.

To be determined. That's useful info to know. My house gets
pretty dusty, and I'm currently researching air purifiers,
HEPA and Hega air filters, etc.

As I mentioned to Fred, I discovered I'd made a false
assumption about the fan direction. My laptop also
inhales/exhales in the same manner as you describe.
