Using a SLES (yes SLES!) CD, I booted into it's rescue
mode (since RHEL's is worthless) and altered the initial
grub boot line to include bnx2x.disable_tpa=1.

Sigh... performance is better, still not as good as
VMware, but at least in the gigabit range (vs. 100Kbit).
