I have personally always tried to go with the most popular distro that
I can stand, this pedantic mentality that if every single thing about
a distro does not jive with me then I am going to go run off and play
in my own sandbox is what has fragmented linux and created all these
distros. I am a big fan of choice but its always going to be a windows
(and thus insecure, with crappy apps) world if linux / unix can't stop
bitching and moaning about these little details.

I say, pick the distro that you hate the least out of the top 3 or so
and go make the case to fix whatever you don't like about it. (or
better yet, write the code to fix it and submit it yourself)
