Howdy,
  There are times when you want multiple servers.  When they are all on
the same network, it is a good idea.  In the simple example I gave,
there is no telling what network you are looking at.  For example, if
you looked at the listing for EUIrc, then none of those servers would
know anything about our #ntlug channel.  So, the safe advice was to
delete all the Servers except for one.  If you want to get fancier, then
sure, add in multiple servers on the freenode.net network.
