I used accelerator appliances back in my ISP days.  We billed them as a
way to get some content faster.  Email got a big boost because SMTP is
all text and a good candidate for compression.

As for my cell data speed, all I have to go on is perception.  It seems
faster than dialup, but it doesn't seem like 192K.

Come to think of it, youtube doesn't run very well.  On the other hand,
speed is all relative.  I don't watch much video and mostly use the cell
link to keep up with email.
