[NTLUG:Discuss] Microcenter Linux CD's

Surely someone else has noticed this, but I found it a bit odd. Microcenter
is selling Linux CD's off a rack near the checkout line. There are some
pictures here:

The Ubuntu and Kubuntu disks look like the ones that you can get for free
from Canonical (8.04 release, the long term support version, which is still
current). I know that you can order these CD's in bulk also. The GPL
allows you to sell copies of free software for the cost of the media plus a
reasonable amount to recover expenses. I am not sure how that applies
here.

The other two CD's in the display are GParted, which is described as
partitioning software that will work in Windows and Linux, and a system
rescue CD, which is probably the SystemRescueCD from here:
http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page.

In any case it is nice to see these available where people go to buy tech
stuff. Linux CD's have always been available in magazines and books in the
stores, but these CD's are only $2.99. Maybe a few more home-built
computers will wind up with Linux on them because of this.
