I played with KDE 4 briefly in Kubuntu 8.10 (just released) this
weekend; and while there obviously are a lot of new features and
capabilities and some possibilities for radical departures,
out of the box it didn't feel like a radical UI departure was being
forced upon me.. Mostly it felt more like "Oh, I have to go
figure out where such-and-such feature is" -- similar to the
experience of moving from Windows to Linux, or from Microsoft Office
to OpenOffice.org, or from Gnome to KDE (or vice-versa).

That said, I ultimately decided that I'll be sticking with
Kubuntu 8.04 for the time being, because there are too
many "must-have features" that I need that apparently haven't
made it into KDE 4 yet. (Keyboard shortcuts tops the list.)

When KDE 4 is more complete I suspect it'll be just fine as a
desktop environment for me, but until then I'm staying with
what I have now (KDE 3.5).
