Generally, you will download the Live CD as an .iso file.  In Gnome, you
can burn an .iso file to disc directly from the file manager with a
right-click option.  No extra software is needed.  I'm not sure if KDE
has a similar option.

Otherwise, K3b is probably the most popular cd-burning software for
Linux, and it is very user friendly.  It will let you burn .iso files as
well as just about anything else.
