You are correct about the + - discs. What you are not seeing is that the
version of cdrecord in Suse 9.3 does not have support for -R -RW.
Snip from OpenSuse forum:
" Output from cdrecord when run from a command line in SuSE Linux 10.0."
" cdrecord: This version of cdrecord does not include DVD-R/DVD-RW support
code.
cdrecord: If you need DVD-R/DVD-RW support, ask the Author for
cdrecord-ProDVD."
K3B requirements: #4 dvd+rw-tools

Software changes Suse 9.3:
4.2.4.10. DVD Burning
"In the past, a patch was applied to the |cdrecord| binary from the
|cdrecord| package to support burning DVDs. Instead, a new binary
|cdrecord-dvd| is installed that has this patch. The |growisofs| program
from the |dvd+rw-tools| package can now burn all DVD media (DVD+R,
DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RL). Try using that one instead of the
patched |cdrecord-dvd|"
You can always uninstall if it does not work.
