Nope - that doesn't seem to do anything.

If you are referring to the dropdown box in the icon bar of the main 
application
window, it starts up saying:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-116D (/dev/hdc)

...and clicking on the drop-down box doesn't change that.

My own answer to this problem, using a Plextor drive with Debian 
4.0, was covered early in the thread.  I put the command k3b on 
the command line of a root terminal.  K3b came up on my desktop 
and saw and burned a DVD for me.  I had to be root to make it 
work.  A regular user got only a greyed out start button at
burn time.
