Thanks - Sally,
   I don't need any files on this disk, just the ability to BOOT my system!!
I can manipulate and see anythi ng I want from the live cd , but I don't know how to repair the boot order or MBR.

You could boot to your Ubuntu CD, without installing Ubuntu, and
access your files.
