[NTLUG:Discuss] Pidgin & ubuntu 8.04

Its always best to aptitude remove gaim and then clean install pidgin.
 i had some problems with gaim and pidgin both running (not that it
wouldn't work in theory).  Make sure your protocols are all correct.
For example, if you're using XMPP make sure you set it up using a
tutorial (google talk, etc.)  Did you apt-get it?
