I'm writing some software for the TI DaVinci Evaluation Module which encodes
and generates the  .mpeg4 file format.  It's a cross-platform  package (the
Windows side is VB 6 and the Linux side is Java or something to the effect
of Mono .. as per Dennis Rice's suggestion).  What's a good place to start
with VLC as far as the mpeg4 support.  I know it's a bit shaky (I've tried a
lot of players).  Is there something better for Linux.

Oh .. and the TI embedded MontaVista Linux is amazing.  Anyone used it?
