I powered off the drive/adapter while still attached to the USB port,
then powered on and read dmesg. I kept reading dmesg for the next
almost ten minutes and got this:

=============================

So, I guess that tells me in black and white that my feeble attempt to
partition the drive failed miserably. Unless the adapter board is the
problem, which I doubt because I got my old Win95 1.6GB disk down
and installed it in the same adapter and it worked fine. So...

As I see it, I have to use FAT32 for compatibility. WinXP won't do more
than 32MB of FAT32 so I have to use Linux. Why did qtparted not work?
It said it did. When I did a df, I saw a clean 149GB of FAT32 reported.
So what is going on with this drive? I used a quick format program
fat32format.exe with XP while the drive was on the IDE bus. What
am I missing??
