I have been using AVG for Linux on my Debian system at home (4.0) and I
have not had any issues with it. When I build a system for someone, or
rebuild a store-bought system that has been ravaged by viruses or
spyware, I always recommend AVG Free because it seems to work so much
better than anything else I have found. I also heard that the
Virus/Malware writers are using Symantec's and McAfee's virus
definitions as their template for beating Anti-Virus protection, and the
smaller AV software firms are doing a better job of detection because of
that. That may or may not be the case, but I do know I get better
results with AVG at home than I get with Symantec at work.
