Gentlemen,
I pestered you all about the project that I'm working on for the Boy
Scouts a few months ago. Well the time is just about here.
A tentative release date of April 28, 2008 is scheduled for the Boy
Scouts of America Open Source Initiative. The OSI project, sponsored by
the Boy Scouts of America National Council, goal is to create a state of
the art full service Open Source Software resource. The OSS Website
features OSS Discussion Forums, OSS E-Learning, OSS Product Catalogs,
and OSS Project Hosting.
The OSS Website is truly a product of the Open Source Community. The
website was built using only Open Source tools and products. Every
aspect of the system, with the exception of the hardware, comes from the
Open Source community. Even the OSS Website itself, is an Open Source
Project.
Just some of the building blocks that the system was built on include
Linux, MySQL, PostgreSQL, GForge, MediaWiki, phpBB, Mailman, Subversion,
CVS, PHP, Apache, and Shorewall. A complete listing will be featured on
the website.
The website will be announced in 2 phases. The first announcement will
be made to the Open Source Community. We are inviting the Open Source
Community to join us in our effort to create an Open Source resource
that is "Built for the community, by the community". Come help us build
out the website and show the world how Open Source works.
