:)
I prefer Dell... but I like (only) their highest end
units. With that said, my wife's D600 has held up really
well... it's over 3 years old now. She also runs
Linux.
My machine is a Dell M70. Which I highly recommend as
well.. and you can probably snag one pretty cheap.
It's still just a Pentium M, so most will be throwing
them away. But it has a nice Nvidia GPU.... very
rock solid.
If you can find an M70 through Dell's outlet at
a reasonable price, that might be a good way to
go. Possibly cheap and powerful.
There's an M70 on Dell's outlet right now (scratch
and dent) with a 2.13Ghz Pentium M (nice) and 100GB
drive with 1G ram.... for $1299.00 Only downside
is that it has the lower res WSXGA+ screen.
Mine has a 2Ghz P-M, a 30G drive and 1G ram and
I paid $2500 or so for it.... mine has the WUXGA 1920x1200
screen though.
I like the M70 better than the M90 because of its
size and weight. But my daughter has the M90, it
seems to run Linux just fine as well. It's a powerhouse,
but it may be out of your budget.
Oh.. you can routinely find Dell D600's for <$500 all
over the place (that's the one my wife uses).
All Dells for the past 3-4 generations all use
the same docking port. So you can have one docking
station that can be used for a D600, M70, M90, etc..
