Hey Dennis. I've been helping support laptops at Sun for several
years - not my day job, but as a community thing. The units that have
given us the least trouble are Toshibas, specifically the Tecra M2, M3
and M5 (and later I presume, no data with them yet).

My M2 did about 300,000 miles of hard travel before finally giving up.
Using an M5 now and it absolutely rocks. Good screen, NVIDIA is my
preferred graphics driver (especially if Solaris/OpenSolaris is in the
mix). The M5 is dual core with HVM - so you can run Windows under Xen.
3945 wireless so drivers are no problem. Good battery life. Tough as
nails.

On the Linux side of things, Toshiba has a pretty good community going.
Google search for tlinux-users. I've put just about everything on them
(Fedora, RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SuSE) and they just work.
