NOW that I have some time to write...
It looks like my Slackware install had an issue with alsaconf, but due
to the install method, never showed me this. When I ran alsaconf I found
it listed TWO things and was confused which to use, so it didn't create
any configuration files.
Once I ran it manually, I saw what it was doing and picked the right one
(i810). It works great now!
As for running partitions.... at my most sick and demented, I had 6
boots on lilo: DOS/Win3.11, Win95, 3 versions of Slackware (3.6, 7.1,
8.0) and I think it was Mandrake for the 6th, or maybe OpenBSD? ...
Usual trick for windows is to make all your partitions Solaris, install
windows and then change the partitions back to what they were. M$ only
attacked Linux (so far anyway), and relabeling the partitions to
something M$ has some contract with tends to protect the partitons from
WindowsXXX. Don't know about Vista... and don't care.
