[NTLUG:Discuss] Microsoft takes on the free world

At some point the public expects a threat to be carried out or a company
will lose the public's respect. (Try to see this from the public
perspective, not as a Linux user.)
I think this is more than just saber rattling. Microsoft has been testing
these waters for quite some time and many, including myself, have been
speculating that the whole SCO issue was simply a means of testing the
waters to see how things would work out.
But recently, the Japanese government issued a new edict: Dump Microsoft!
They are switching to Linux on the back end. It doesn't mean they are
going to Linux on the desktop... not yet anyway. But there is one thing
about the Japanese. They are slow to make a decision, but when they do,
it's not up for discussion or negotiation. If Microsoft tries to send
someone out to change their mind as they have with other governments making
similar decisions, the Japanese will take it as an insult... so I kinda
hope they do. :)
But the world is changing around Microsoft and Microsoft is getting
scared... as well they should.
