I do have another Linux machine, an older FC3. I take it I'm supposed to
make a bootable diskette from the older FC3?

However, the target machine does not have a floppy.

Can I make a Grub boot CD? Any instructions?

FWIW I tried to re-install FC6, but this time it refuses, absolutely
refuses, to install grub on sda. For a full install, the boot loader
screen is skipped. For an update, it refuses to install grub.

Maybe FC6 is still too cranky?

John
