[NTLUG:Discuss] acpi problem installing FC6?

I suspect that my problem installing FC6 may have been due to some acpi
error. The installation guide notes that acpi can screw up an
installation in numerous ways. The guide recommends that on the 1st
install screen, one enters

boot: linux acpi=off

Has anybody done this? Any cautions to recommend?

My reason for suspicion is that when I tried a Windows rescue, it too
failed with a warning that there was an acpi error. Getting desperate, I
tried Windows rescue again to fix the MBR, and the second time it took.

My machine is a Dell 4700 Inspiron.
