I asked this question a few months ago - my local car club needed
webhosting.  I followed up on all the advice I got - compared the
pro's and con's and settled on Dreamhost:  http://www.dreamhost.com

So far, their service has been stellar - they run 100% Linux servers
they aren't the absolute cheapest possible - but if you buy two years
up-front then it's a shade under $200 for two years which isn't too
far off.

But there are lots of options - and this is definitely not a
'one size fits all' kind of thing.
