[NTLUG:Discuss] Linux counter to Vista

MacOSX is a very different kernel from their previous OS kernels. They
sacrificed a LOT of backward compatibility with their bold move. Yes, they
provided the "Classic" mode, but having attempted to implement it in a
production environment, I can attest that it's anything but stable.

Microsoft should have taken the same approach. With all their push for
virtualization, they already have all the tools they need. With a new
kernel based on a full understanding of their present and previous
vulnerabilities, they could have easily discarded a LOT of legacy code and
made an incredibly sleek and envious OS that also hosts a virtualization
mode for legacy code.

Microsoft missed a grand opportunity and instead they gambled on the
consumer's blindly submissive agreeability when it comes to buying
upgrades. So far, it would seem they over-estimated their customers.
