No, it is not good to start with. While comprehensive, it's fairly
dense, assumes a fair bit, and is pretty dated.
There are lots of other books to chooe from. I think the O'Reilly
one (the "cow book") is pretty well-written, really explains pointers
well, and I like the way that it also talks about the things surrounding
C as well (makefiles, getting a compiler, debugging, revisions, etc.)
which is very valuable for someone just starting out in C.
