Slackware's install CD can boot other partitions as long as you pass it
the right details. I use this to rescue some drives that are crashed.
The format on the 10.0 plus disks is:
adaptec.s root=/dev/hda3 noinitrd ro hdb=ide-scsi hotplug
where adaptec.s is the boot kernel to use, root= the hard drive and
partition to mount as root, don't use the initrd from the cdrom, mount
the hard drive as read only, mount hdb (a rewritable atapi DVD) as an
ide-scsi device and finally run hotplug.
