[NTLUG:Discuss] need kernel compiling enlightenment - 2.6 output dir

One might wish to mass compile a bunch of kernels w/ different parameters -
and preserve the output of each of them (for example an AMD and an Intel
version, with/without SMP, etc.)

With the 2.6 kernel one can use..

KERNELSRC    := /usr/src/linux-2.6.15.6
KERNELOUTPUT := /usr/download/O-2.6.15.6

to allow you to 'make' your kernel so that the output is sent to another
location. WHY? I don't understand why someone would even think to do
it that way?

This seems to be a very frustrating way to do things. Is there a technical
or security reason why this might be beneficial?
