this might be your issue:

to disable selinux on boot up, append this "selinux=0" to your kernel line
(i don't think this is your problem though)

If I understand the issue correctly you are trying to log into xwindows as
root, and this is generally not necessary. (in fact I'd go so far to say
it's inadvisable=)
