I am pretty sure libgphoto2 has support for the 20D.  If you are using
Kamera, make sure it was built against libgphoto2, if you use gthumb or the
like it should already be there... Of course card readers tend to be much
faster. Also you might look at dcraw to convert the RAW photos.
